Class Changes at Drighlington
Jenny Dean has left and the replacement teacher at Drighlington is Sophie Crosthwaite. Due to Sophie’s other commitments it means that, at present, classes will commence at 5.30pm as now showing on the website . If you prefer the 4pm/4.15pm time slot, then please feel free to join the Tuesday class in Morley which continues to start at 4.15pm. We are advertising for a new teacher to take over the classes, but this is proving difficult due to the lateness in the academic year. We will continue to keep you posted, but as previously stated in my email of 27th April, these changes will continue until further notice – please pass this on as people seem to think it was a one off.
Exams
The RAD
session has been cancelled as we have a lot more work to do before
taking an
exam – this is due to the recent change in the RAD
syllabus. The exam date will be
rescheduled when we return in September.
The IDTA session is booked for 18th May at Alwoodley Park Methodist Church Hall – see here for directions. If you have not attended this Centre before, please have a trial run or give yourself plenty of time to get there. IDTA exam sessions tend to run in advance of time……
A list for the 18th May session will be circulated imminently, if you think you should be on the list but aren’t get in touch immediately as you may still be able to be included. Letters for school are now available to download from the website, and some printed copies are at the Centres. Bills are being prepared for the exams, and these must be paid before the exam day.
There will be at least one further IDTA session before the end of the academic year so if you missed out this time, get your name down for the next one.
Bun Day – East Ardsley
It is bun day on Saturday 15th May, so bring your cash with you. If you want to get creative and help us out by baking, don’t hold back, all donations gratefully received/eaten.
Cheerleading – East Ardsley
Our mini cheerleaders are doing brilliantly, so much so that you are ready for your first rosette – way to go girls – now we need a t-shirt. Let me know what words best describe cheerleading…….answers on an email please.
Performance Opportunities
We have been asked to perform at Alwoodley Community Association Gala on 20th June and East Ardsley Gala on 10th July. Could you please let me know if you wish to perform as soon as possible, so that I can organise the events. We want to see a mixture of all our classes there.
Northern Ballet – Momentum Project
Two of our students, Jessica Cowling and Caitlin Rose, attended NBT’s Easter Course, and helped develop a piece of work which will be shown when NBT perform Ballet on Briggate, and will also be performed when NBT open their new building later in the year. I will keep you posted of the appropriate dates, but in the meantime join me in congratulating Jessica and Caitlin for being involved in such an exciting project.
New Street Level Class - Alwoodley
Due to popular demand we are starting a Street class for the 4-10 age group. This will take place at Alwoodley on Saturdays between 1.30pm and 2.15pm and is £3.75 per class – classes start this week 15th May. The classes are appropriate to dancers and non-dancers alike so bring your friends too (remember the tell a friend discount!!!)
Egg Rolling
The belated egg roll took place on an intermittently sunny Saturday 1st May. It was utterly brilliant (if not a little mad) and I think will become an annual School event.
We had a democratic vote on the best decorated egg, and when the children had finished voting for their own egg (!) we finally arrived at joint winners of Isobel Watson and Mya Jones. Several “rolls” were done with some of the winners being Kiaya Roberts, Emily Sykes, Jenny Dracup and Millie Howley – apologies if I missed you off, we did get a bit carried away.
Huge huge thank you to Phil Raines (Megan’s dad) who made our egg rolling ramp – engineering brilliance.
Tutu Tubes Competition
The tutu tubes are coming in, there are some fantastic designs. If you haven’t done yours yet – get cracking, we only have two weeks left. If you have not done yours yet, here are the rules (1) buy a tube of smarties (2) fill it with loose change (3) decorate it as a ballerina (4) hand it in. There are prizes in both the School and at a regional RAD level – see the posters in your Centre.
Health & Safety/Child Protection
We have one or two Health and
Safety concerns which need highlighting, and list them via Centre below.
1. East Ardsley Community Centre
a) The radiators in the entrance hall, girl’s toilet and small office are extremely hot – please do not let your children touch them. N.B. There should not be anyone in the small office at any time, especially children.
b) Tables/chairs in the main hall. These are an ongoing concern, but there is nothing we can do about them. Please could all users be aware of them and stay away from them.
2. Drighlington Meeting Hall
The main door to the hall is stuck, please take care when using it. Once again, please may I request that parents do not just leave children in the first class. They need supervision entering and leaving the building, not to mention their frequent toilet trips.
3. East Ardsley Methodist Church Hall
a) Again, please do not drop your children off in the carpark. Due to the way that the hall is set out, it is difficult to see who enters the building. We do not want your children put at risk. Please therefore ensure that you see them go into the hall, and you collect them from the hall.
b) The upturned chairs and rolled up carpet in the hall is a real concern. Again, we are powerless to do anything about it. Please could all users of the room stay well away from it.
4. Morley St Pauls Church Hall
Please do not drop your child off before the designated start time, we are not child minders. You must stay with your child until they enter the room. Similarly please ensure that you are there the minute their lessons finish to collect them from the room.
Accident Books
These are now available at each Centre. At Alwoodley and East Ardsley they can be found in the tea box. At Drighlington and Morley they will be with your teacher. Please report all accidents, no matter how small.
